LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE: ON EMPOWERING MEN.
“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
~Marianne Williamson
I don’t often get Empowerment inquiries from men. As a queer, middle aged woman I have focused a lot on elevating those who often feel unseen in this society and, well, men are not generally the demographic. But when C approached me this Spring and booked his Empowerment Session, something in me shifted.
Something ignited.
We cannot smash the fucking patriarchy if we are not also lifting men up in a loving and nurturing way. In a way that encourages vulnerability, strength through softness, and a deep seated desire for actual self love. In a way that encourages change. We cannot create that change within this broken system without encouraging a healthy shift within the exact humans who are meant to uphold and enforce it. And, to me, THAT is radical feminism.
I have an almost adult son. A son whom I’ve tried very hard to raise in a way that has him constantly questioning this oppressive, patriarchal, conservative AF system that feels so suffocating to many of us. A son whom I feel very passionately about instilling the drive for great emotional health, not just physical. I want to give him tools that men in the past were not given since that’s not how “real men” were raised.
So. This is for you, but not just for you. It’s for the rest of us. It’s for my son. For the other young men who need healthy examples set for them. For women. For the BIPOC community. For the LGBTQIA community. For other grown men who are ready to learn how to be a whole ass human being so that they can better this world and help the rest of us smash the fucking patriarchy.
Be an example for growth. For change. For love.
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.
Let’s do this.
